From October to April every year, it’s trout fishing season in the Maluti Mountains. With Rainbow Trout and the occasional Brown Trout, you can test your skills against Lesotho’s big ones, grown large in the fresh mountain air and clean rivers.
Semonkong Lodge is proud to offer fly fisherman a pristine piece of river with amazing fishing opportunities.
The Maletsunyane River on whose banks Semonkong lodge nestles, presents unique fishing opportunities. The fishing is divided by the mighty Maletsunyane falls which forms a formidable natural barrier to fish movement and creates two distinctly different fishing zones in the river.
The river was stocked with Trout in the mid 1950’s, with the area above the falls of both Brown and Rainbows. But as so often happens one species prevailed above the falls and today this stretch is exclusively Browns only.

A good proportion of Motebong’s guests come to the resort to relax and spend their time fishing in the Katse Dam, Lesotho. This is stocked with the local Trout fish and Yellowfish, the preferred fish eaten by the Basotho local in and around Ha Lejone. Motebong has almost 150 metres of shoreline from which anglers can pursue their passion, and guests are also permitted to bring in their own craft which can be launched from the banks in the camp.
